Trustees voted unanimously on Monday to apply for two grants that could bring in several hundred thousand dollars for a variety of projects that officials hope will improve the image of Tupper Lake.
One of the grants the village is pursuing, called a community development block grant, is designed to help low and moderate income individuals to make improvements to their homes.
The village is also applying for a federal grant that is similar to the block grant but would apply to rental units as well as owner occupied buildings.
Mayor Mickey Desmarais said that Tupper Lake has a lot going on, but that some areas could use a "facelift."
"Tupper Lake has an image issue," Desmarais said. "There's a lot of homes that need dressing up."
Grant winners will be announced by September of this year.
