The U.S. Civil Air Patrol in Vermont is on alert for possible evacuation of its air assets to safe haven locations should Hurricane Earl reach northern New England.
Hurricane Earl is currently situated in the area of Puerto Rico.
Hurricane Earl or its remnants are expected to pass across or near New England coastal areas within the next three to four days.
Col. Thomas Benckert of the U.S. CAP in Vermont alerted Vermont squadrons via e-mail--including those in Burlington, Rutland and at smaller airports elsewhere in the state--to prepare in case the hurricane reaches the area.
Benckert noted that Vermont CAP has not been tasked with anything as of Wednesday morning, Sept. 1.
While the Vermont CAP has not been asked to move assets, local squadrons are reviewing emergency plans and options.
