Vermont runners sweep St. Michaels Invitational COLCHESTER Sophomore Doug Maisey (Gwynedd Valley, Pa.) and senior Carmen Lagala (Montpelier, Vt.) led the Vermont mens and womens cross country teams to a sweep at the Saint Michaels Invitational on Friday afternoon. It was the fourth straight year the Catamounts have swept both races at the meet and the fifth straight year the womens team has placed first. Maisey led a strong Catamount contingent, as UVM runners were the first 12 across the finish line. He finished first with a time of 26:32, beating out teammate Chris Healy (Denver, Colo.) by 50 seconds. Charlie Schaefer (Blue Bell, Pa.) and Tom Cheney (Milton, Vt.) rounded out the top four runners for the Catamounts. Lagala placed second overall behind Lyndon States Lyndsay Calkins (22:39), with a time of 23:14. Teammates Aly Millett (Half Moon Bay, Calif.), Julianne Crisafulli (Syracuse, N.Y.) and Hannah Masse (Fitchburg, Mass.) followed Lagala in the 3-4-5 spots. Overall Vermont placed nine runners among the first 11 finishers in the event. Vermont will take a week off to prepare for the 2007 America East Cross Country Championships that will be held October 27 at Stony Brook. Last season both Catamount teams posted their best finishes at the league championship in four years.
