Kimberly Cummins, left, and Meghan Risley are getting ready for the Waffle Frolic being held this Saturday, Oct. 15, at the Great Adirondack Soup Company in Plattsburgh. The event will raise money for the ROTA Studio and Gallery.
Waffles and cartoons are a combination Kimberly Cummins is hoping people will like.
Cummins is joining together with a group of friends to host a “Waffle Frolic” this Saturday, Oct. 15, at the Great Adirondack Soup Company, 24 Oak St. The event will raise money for the ROTA Studio and Gallery, a local arts and entertainment venue.
“We had the idea of having a breakfast and one thing we remember as kids was eating waffles and watching cartoons,” said Cummins. “It’s a moment in our lives we thought would fun, collectively, to revisit.”
The first Waffle Frolic was held last month at the North Country Co-op and was a success, said Cummins. This Saturday’s event will mirror what the first did, offering waffles made from fresh, local ingredients with a side of cartoons and programming famous during the Saturday mornings of the ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s.
Cummins said the waffles will also be made “vegan-friendly” to take into consideration those with special diets.
“We wanted to be able to make something everyone can enjoy, because we have no idea how many people in the community are vegan or vegetarian,” said Cummins.
The cost will be a donation of $5 to benefit ROTA, which hosts concerts by various musical artists, art shows and performances on a regular basis.
“Where else can you get two giant Belgian waffles for $5,” said Cummins.
The Waffle Frolic will start at 9 a.m. and run through 2 p.m. this Saturday.
