MONTPELIER - The Vermont Attorney General's Office issued a warning to Vermont consumers: don't drink the water (glasses). Atty. Gen. William Sorrell said Vermonters should avoid buying or using certain decorative drinking glasses because of high lead in the painted illustrations on the products.
The products were imported from China by a Salt Lake City-based company called Vandor, LLC. The company's name appears on the packaging. The drinking glasses are being sold in a several retail outlets in the state.
Sorrell said, "Independent laboratory testing found that nine glasses out of 15 Vandor glasses and mugs contained lead concentrations of between 14 and 81 times the state limit of 100 parts per million (ppm) of lead for children's products as defined under Vermont law."
The glasses also contained the heavy metal cadmium, although at much lower levels, accordingto Sorrel.
