Registrations are now open for Warren County Historical Society's annual children's History Camp, scheduled from July 13 through 15.
The popular camp, tailored for children in 3rd to 6th grades, features experiences around historic places and events in Warren County. This year during the three days, campers will gather in Glens Falls, Queensbury and Horicon to participate in activities in those communities.
The 150th anniversary of the Civil War will be a main theme for this year's activities. A Civil War encampment with re-enactors will be held in Horicon on the final day of camp. Parents and friends may join the campers for a Victorian dinner followed by a concert of period music. There is a fee for the dinner of $6 for adults; $3 for children ages 6-12 -$3; and free for those 5 and under. The concert is complimentary.
Parents must provide transportation to and from the selected site each day, and carpooling is encouraged. Campers receive a logo t-shirt, tote bag, and each day lunches and hats that reflect the topic presented that day. In addition, all admissions for activities are included in the registration fee of $35 for all three days.
Camp hours are from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday; and Friday noon to the conclusion of the concert.
Enrollment is limited, and registration ends June 24. This camp supported in part with funds from Stewart's Holiday Match program and the Lake George Rotary Club.
Registration forms are available through area schools. Children from outside Warren County may also participate. Additional forms can be obtained from the Society offices at 195 Sunnyside Road, Queensbury, NY or by calling 743-0734 or 793-9837.
