LAKEGEORGE - Sales tax receipts in Warren County appear to have increased during the first quarter. Sales tax is one of the largest sources of revenue county-wide.
January and March saw a 6.2 percent hike in sales tax money, but much of that increase was generated from two vendors who did not file their returns correctly last year, according to county Deputy Treasurer Robert Lynch.
The two unidentified businesses filed close to $400,000 late in 2010 and was, therefore, credited this year.
Without those payments, the first quarter of 2011 was up 1.9 percent from last year, an increase of just under $200,000. The county took in $9.8 million for the quarter and saw its biggest increase in March.
