The Lake Placid/Essex County Visitors Bureau would like to welcome incoming Schroon Lake Representative Joseph Kelly to the Board of Directors. Kelly and his wife live in the town of Minerva where they raised their four children. Having lived in the Schroon Lake Region most of his life, Kelly is excited to have the opportunity to represent his neighbors. Currently, hes the Regional Manager/VPfor Glens Falls National Bank & Trust Co.,covering upper Warren and all of Essex County, and has served as a Minerva Town Supervisor and an Essex County Board of Supervisors Member. Kelly has an accomplished record of service to the region, including chairing the Essex County Economic Development Committee from 2004-2005, as well as serving on the board of three other regional organizations. The Schroon Lake Region is a gem in the Adirondacks; hosting fishing during the summer and winter, snowshoeing, theatrical and musical productions, snowmobiling trails, and countless other family-friendly activities. As a destination, Kelly believes that focusing on the redevelopment of lodging properties should be first and foremost. There are many factors to make tourism successful, but I believe in the Schroon Region adding lodging property rooms is what is needed first, he says. We offer a destination thats near the interstate and only four hours from New York City. A wilderness thats difficult to match; including the High Peaks, Hudson River, and the Blue Ledges; he adds, offer a lot in terms of an attractive destination. The region faces significant challenges, including many that affect the standard of living in local communities. Bureau President James McKenna has noted that good communities make good destinations, and the Schroon Lake region would be a perfect example. By reinforcing the welcoming attitude that we all show visitors with continued development in lodging, year-round job opportunities, and local amenities, we will continue to see an increase in the amount of visitors.
