If you listen to the media, or many of the so-called teachers on religion, they will try to tell you that the practice of homosexuality is completely permissible by God. Some will even go so far as to say that it is not addressed in scripture.
We need to be aware that these people are not speaking on behalf of God; they are speaking on their own volition. If people would take the time to read the Bible, they would find that God does have something to say, and He does so very clearly.
Timothy 1: 9 tells us, "We know that the law is made not for the righteous but for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious; for those who kill their fathers and mothers, for murderers, for adulterers and perverts...and whatever else is contrary to sound doctrine." Paul, on instruction by God himself, tells us that homosexuality (called perversion) is "contrary to sound doctrine." Homosexuality is ungodly and sinful. That sounds very clear.
In Romans chapter 1, Paul again is addressing the issue of sin and he says in verse 21, "For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened." Verse 24 tells us what happens to people who do not glorify God, "Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another."
Verse 26 continues, "God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another."
You see, God is very clear about sin. God did not design for men to be with men, nor women to be with women. When God created man, he gave him a woman to be his companion. God knew that they would each complement each other, and all things that God created were good.
Anyone who decides that he wants to reinterpret what God says is clearly opposed to God and has rejected His final word. The battle that is raging today concerning the homosexuality movement is not a battle between denominations or religions, or people groups. It is not about tolerance. No. It is a battle lead by rebellious man against God.
But there is some very good news. Since the verses mentioned above declare that homosexuality is a sin, there is hope for all of those who will accept the sacrifice for sin that God has provided.
Romans 5:8 says "God demonstrated his own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." If you or a friend is trapped in the sin of homosexuality, Christ has paid the price of sin by dying on your behalf. He has satisfied the anger of God towards sin so that you can now be forgiven if you choose to receive his Son. That is the good news that we often do not hear in this argument.
