RAQUETTE LAKE On Saturday Feb. 16, events and activities are scheduled as part of Raquette Lakes 54th Winter Carnival. Beginning around 10 am, games for kids will be held from the library, where there is hot chocolate, cookies and restrooms. Afterwards, there will be a program at the library for kids. The Annual Ladies Frying Pan Toss and The Mens Golf Ball Drive on the lake are immediately following.The Carnival Spirit goes into the evening- get warm at the bonfire, stay warm by participating in the tug of war and enjoy a free fireworks display. Local author and town historian Jim Kammer is swinging open the school doors Saturday and Sunday from 6:30-8:30pm for an open house of Raquette Lakes History Center. Jim will display pictures of the past and be available to answer questions about his new book Around Raquette Lake. St. Williams on Long Point is hosting the event and will provide hot cocoa, cider and cookies. On Sunday at noon the Raqueteers Snowmobile Club will hold a cross-cut (one complete disc) and chainsaw competition (three complete cuts) in the men, women and mixed categories. The library will be open for restrooms, hot chocolate and warmth.
