PLATTSBURGH - The Foundation of CVPH Medical Center and the Advocacy and Resource Center Foundation are getting together for "In Full Bloom," a brand-new event focusing on women's wellness and rejuvenation.
"We wanted to do something for women, giving them a break from the winter blues and reminding them to take time to care for themselves," said Kerry R. Haley, executive director of the Foundation of CVPH.
The event, Haley said, will "give women an opportunity to rejuvenate themselves" by offering them workshops on a variety of topics such as coping with stress, tips on interior design, and even martial arts.
"The idea is to take a morning for yourself and do something healthy for your body and mind," Haley said. "Women who come to this event can expect to have a fun morning, a good laugh, and get great advice on how to improve your life."
In Full Bloom - which will take place this Saturday, March 19, at West Side Ballroom, 295 New York Road - will feature physical therapy assistant Cheryl Gardner with the CVPH Rehabilitation Department, presenting "Tai Chi;" Dr. Joe Odnaha of Plattsburgh Family Chiropractic presenting "Stress and Balance;" P.O.D. Studio owner Joshua Kretser presenting "Designs for the Times" and Karen Case, certified nurse midwife Karen Case with Planned Parenthood, presenting "What's Driving Miss Daisy?"
"We have terrific local speakers for the breakout sessions ... I think it will be hard for people to choose between topics," Haley said. "There is something for everyone."
The five-hour event will begin with sessions at 9 a.m. During lunch, keynote speaker Johnna MacDougal, will present her speech, "Laughing MATTERS," a look at how humor and laughter can be incorporated into a daily mindful practice.
"We have seen a huge success with our Girls Night Out event in October and we all need a time to have a good healthy laugh," Haley said. "We wanted to try to deliver that more than once a year and our keynote speaker, Johnna, will deliver that."
The $20 cost of admission includes the cost of workshops, lunch, and a complimentary massage. An exhibit featuring local vendors will be open through the conclusion of the event at 2 p.m.
