A work readiness credential course will be held March 28 through May 9 at North Country Community College in Ticonderoga. The course leads to the National Work Readiness and National Retail Federation Customer Service Credential.
Individuals seeking employment opportunities will receive instruction in communication skills, courtesy and awareness of customer needs, workplace reading and math, resume writing, online job applications, interview skills and more.

“Ticonderoga currently has necessary ingredients to grow our local economy, including health care, education and industry, including tourism,” Chattie Van Wert, Ticonderoga Revitalization Alliance executive director, said. “Another critical element is a trained workforce. Given so much of our local economy depends on tourism, it fits that our workforce must be skilled in delivering excellent customer service.
“Visitors need to be greeted by courteous, helpful, friendly and knowledgeable employees at service stations, restaurants, lodging and retail establishments,” she said. “That is why CV-TEC, One-WorkSource, Ticonderoga Revitalization Alliance and Ticonderoga Area Chamber of Commerce have worked to bring the six-week National Work Readiness and National Retail Federation Customer Service training to Ticonderoga for a second year. Last spring the program graduated 11 students, most of whom found jobs in the area.”
The National Workforce Readiness Credential course is a nationally-recognized course that prepares employees to be successful in the workplace over the long term and has proven to be valuable to employers in reducing hiring costs and employee turnover, Van Wert said.
Ticonderoga area employers are invited to register their employees for the courses. Either employed or unemployed registrants may qualify for free tuition.
The program starts March 28 with a basic math and reading assessment which everyone must complete on that day. Classes will be held at North Country Community College, Ticonderoga Campus, Fridays from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on April 4, April 11, April 25 and May 2. NWRC and Customer Service testing will be conducted May 9 and an employment event the following week.
