TICONDEROGA - Coach Bob Sutphen has a simple goal for this Ticonderoga football team this season - get better.
"We are, perhaps, a bit young, but we have shown solid work ethic thus far." Sutphen said. "While not the largest team around, we have shown to be fairly smart. With luck, we will continue to improve each week."
The Sentinels return 12 players from 2009 when they posted a 5-5 Northern Football Conference record. Most of the veterans are skill position players.
Luke Bartlett returns for his senior season and will likely replace graduated quarterback Robert Kearns.
Dan Morrison and Ryan Borho return to running back spots.
The Sentinels have a bundle of receivers. Jon Granger, Cory Ahern, Tanner Purkey, Garrett Cooper and Dan Hermann return as wide outs. Frank Jebb is back at tight end.
Other receivers are Sean Smith, Anthony Barnaby, Will Lawrie, Jesse Perkins, Doug Wilson, Joe Gonyeau, Joe Messier, E.J. Kearns, Tyler Tucker and Nick Mars.
Jesse LaRose, Dillon Lafferty, Jake O'Hara and Cory King return to the Ticonderoga offensive line.
They're joined by rookies Dennis Towne, Wes Porter, Darryl McKeown, Josh Ross, Jacob Demaris, Hayden Bazan and Carson Granger.
Size could be an issue for the Sentinel line. Only three players are listed at better than 200 pounds.
The defensive front will feature LaRose, Lafferty, Towne, Porter, McKeown, Ross, O'Hara, Bazan, King, Demaris, Carson Granger, Wilson and Mars.
The linebacking corps will have Borho, Cooper, Jebb Kearns and Lawrie.
In the secondary Ti will line up Ahern, Barnaby, Bartlett, Gonyeau, Jon Granger, Hermann, Messier, Morrison, Perkins, Purkey, Smith and Tucker.
Assisting Sutphen on the sidelines this fall are Jim Decker, Bill Barnhart, Scott Nephew, Todd Mitchell and Kyle Lang.
