PLATTSBURGH The fourth annual Golf Ball Drop, sponsored by the Joint Council for Economic Opportunity of Clinton and Franklin Counties, resulted in five lucky participants winning more than $6,000. Members of the Keeseville Fire Department used their bucket truck to drop 1,226 golf balls onto a makeshift green at Barracks Golf Course in Plattsburgh Aug. 22. The event was rescheduled from Aug. 8, due to inclement weather. The three closest participants to the hole and the person or persons possessing the ball furthest from the hole received a percentage of the money raised from the event. A ball owned by Doug Payne of Bloomingdale landed in the hole, winning him $4,087.17. The second closest ball belonged to Travis Cooper of Morrisonville, who won $1,000. The third closest was Kristin Louise, Plattsburgh, who won $500. The ball furthest from the hole was owned by Tim Lemos and Chip Reynolds, Plattsburgh. JCEO development director Amy L. Kretser said the participation exceeded her expectations, and noted more than $18,000 from the event will benefit the JCEO Big Buddy youth mentoring program. We want to thank everyone for coming out, said Kretser. We really appreciate the support. This will help a lot of children.
