The Willsboro Warriors pulled off the shocker of the early season, beating the Chazy Eagles 3-1 Sept. 20.
The game started off pretty neutral, until Clay Sherman followed the bouncing ball and dribbled past two defenders and Eagles goalie Austin Santor for a 1-0 Willsboro lead.
Clayton Cross then scored on a net scramble, and Nick Arnold scored off a Jeff Bigelow corner kick for a 3-0 lead in the first half.
Nathan Reynolds scored late in the game for Chazy, also off a corner.
I have two thoughts. The first is that I have never seen the Chazy boys team trailing by three goals, ever. Despite the loss, everyone still knows that this is the team to beat in Class D.
The second goes along with that; Willsboro better be ready for the entire package from Chazy the next time they face them. In the second half, the Warriors saw the real Chazy, and they won, 1-0.
I'm not saying that Willsboro can't beat them again. They have proven they are more than capable. but now, the shoe is on the other foot in terms of who has their next meeting circled on the calendar and will have the thought of a tough loss in the back of their minds for the next two-plus weeks.
