To the News Enterprise:
After a very busy summer, I would like to take this time to thank all the community members and organizations who donated a wide variety of items and money. What a spectacular showing!
Throughout March, S.M.I.L.E. collected new baby items, which we distributed amongst many new parents. In July, we were honored by a fundraiser hosted by Pat and Jim, during their Reynolds & Dunn CD Release Celebration. Other summer donations from churches, individuals, organizations and some very anonymous donors totaled $3,318.81.
Prior to the start of school, S.M.I.L.E., Barb Anderson, Church of Transfiguration, Ilene Rivette, Community Services, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Linda Hayes, McNamara’s and Blue Mountain Methodist Church collected enough school supplies that we’ll be able to help families throughout the school year. In the past six months, Stewart’s donated 476.5 pounds of bread and rolls.
Additional food, paper goods and toiletries were donated by several individuals, area post offices, Long Lake Art Camp, the Junior Ambulance Corps, Community Services Fun Day, Church of Transfiguration, Blue Mountain Methodist Church, Saint Mary’s, S.M.I.L.E., Cavalry United Methodist Church, and St. Henry’s Catholic Church.
Thanks to the outpouring of support among all the organizations, individuals, and churches we have been able to meet the needs of area individuals and families who might otherwise go without.
We are always greatly appreciative for the donations we receive from each and every one of you. With the doubling of families utilizing our food pantry, it has never been so crucial for us to express our needs. Without the continued support from the community, we may have to look at cutting back on the amount of food each family can receive and eliminate the emergency services we offer.
Through our membership to the Regional Food Bank of NENY a donation of $25 can feed an average family of four for at least a week.
Therefore, might I make a suggestion to anyone reading this to consider making a monetary donation to Community Action this year rather than purchasing impractical items for family during the holidays. For additional information, I may be contacted at the number below.
