Free Methodists offer zumba
The Warrensburg Free Methodist Church is now offering Zumba Gold classes on Tuesdays and Fridays from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the church’s Fellowship Hall.
Zumba Gold features more leisurely routines than standard zumba. Although aimed for those 50 and older, all ages are welcome to attend, even on a drop-in basis, according to pastor Nancy Barrow.
Leading the sessions — open to the public — is Anna Hay of Schroon Lake, a certified zumba instructor.
A charge of $5 per session fee helps offset instructional costs. The church is located at 250 River St. For details, call Pastor Nancy Barrow at 793-3020.
Church hosts Christian singers
On the third Sunday of each month, the Warrensburg Free Methodist Church is hosting a series of concerts featuring Christian artists.
The sessions, held at 3 p.m., are sponsored by radio station WGNA and have been well-received by the public so far, Pastor Nancy Barrow said this week.
“We’ve had regional Christian artists from as far away as Albany performing,” she said, noting the groups represent all styles of Christian music, including rural gospel, country, inspirational ballads and contemporary gospel. “They’ve all been incredible.”
The next concert, set for 3 p.m. April 21, features Cheri Taylor.
The concerts are free of charge, but a “love offering” is taken to help offset the artists’ travel expenses, Barrow said, adding that children are welcome at the concerts.
For details, contact Barrow at 793-3020. Note that on April 27, the church is conducting a bake sale at Curtis Lumber on River St. To occur between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., the proceeds will help fund activities of the church’s youth group.
Bicentennial fest plans forming
The Warrensburg Bicentennial Committee is continuing to plan Warrensburg Day, a community celebration to observe the town’s 200th year.
The event, to be held July 4 at the town recreation field, will be preceded by a gala parade.
Officers of the Warrensburg Chamber of Commerce, helping organize the festivities, are expecting a fun-filled old fashioned gathering.
The parade will feature various community groups, musical ensembles, sports teams and service organization.
After the procession, activities including game for children commence at the recreation field.
A box lunch auction, a traditional rural activity, is among the featured events. The auction entails women preparing a lunch and men bidding to share the meal.
Also, a mustache contest is planned, so men are urged to start growing facial hair now so they can compete.
For details, contact Lynn Smith by leaving a message at 623-2161 or Town Clerk Donna Combs at 623-4561.
