The Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake boys soccer team rallied for three goals in the second half to defeat defending Section II Class AA champion Saratoga Springs 3-2 in Thursday's Suburban Council opener.
Only one of the three goals was attributed to a Spartan, as the first two BH-BL goals deflected off Saratoga players. Sean Kenny notched the go-ahead goal off a feed from Jeff Baxter late in the second half.
Saratoga took a 2-0 lead on first-half goals by Preston Rice and Morgan Smith, but an own goal by the Blue Streaks 10 minutes into the second half gave BH-BL new life. The Spartans tied the game a short time later when Tim Hughes headed Ryan Capron's corner kick on goal, and the ball bounced off a Saratoga defender into the net.
The Spartans outplayed the Blue Streaks on the stat sheet. BH-BL had the advantage in corner kicks (7-4) and shots on goal (9-4). Saratoga goaltender Danny Marshall made several saves to keep his team in the game.
