Candice King of Wellington, FL rode Whistler to victory in the $30,000 USA Animo Open Jumper Classic Thursday at the 35th annual I Love New York Horse Show, Presented by Sea Shore Stables, LLC.
Only five of 41 entries advanced to the tiebreaking jump-off by riding without penalty over the 15-jump first-round course at the North Elba Showgrounds designed by Olaf Peterson, Jr. of Germany. King was the second to return for the eight-jump, jump-off and she rode fault-free again, finishing in 38.342 seconds to take the lead.
The next rider was Chase Boggio of Canton, GA and he turned in the only other fault-free ride in the jump-off, but his time of 39.572 seconds on Hennessey left him just shy of King's time for a second place finish. Third place went to Luis Larrazabal of Venezuela who had four jump-off faults and a time of 39.339 seconds on G&C Flash and fourth went to Jordan MacPherson of Toronto, Canada who finished with eight faults in 38.356 seconds on Picco Bello Du Val De Gee.
King also took top honors Thursday in the 1.35m Lake Placid Lodge Jump-off Class on Amigo. Other winners on Thursday included Laura Chapot on Zealous in the 1.40m J. Lohr Vineyards & Wines Open Speed Stake and Schaeffer Raposa on Gideon in the Beacon Hill Farm High Junior Jumper Class.
