The Shaker football team lost its third consecutive game Friday as Schenectady held on for a 21-19 Liberty Division win in Latham.
Ryan Griffin's 9-yard touchdown run and extra point cut Schenectady's lead to two points in the fourth quarter, but that was as close as Shaker (2-3) got.
Turnovers were a deciding factor in the game, as Schenectady (2-3) picked off Shaker quarterback Chris Landers three times. Landers completed eight of his 15 passes for 140 yards.
Shaker's running backs kept the Bison in the game. Griffin led the way with 62 yards and a pair of touchdowns among his nine carries, while Tyler Oppelt ran five times for 41 yards and a score. Shaker finished with 200 rushing yards against Schenectady's defense.
Schenectady scored the first touchdown of the game before Shaker took a 12-7 lead on scoring runs by Griffin and Oppelt. The Patriots regained the lead late in the second quarter with a touchdown and a two-point conversion, and they never looked back.
Niskayuna served its way to a 3-0 sweep of Shaker in Friday's Suburban Council girls volleyball match in Latham.
The Silver Warriors (4-5) recorded 16 service aces to defeat the Blue Bison 25-12, 25-17 and 25-20.
Allie Legere and Samantha Atchinson each had five aces to lead Niskayuna. Legere also had seven kills and four digs, while Atchinson contributed four kills and 24 digs.
Heather Cook chipped in with seven blocks, four aces, four digs and two kills, and Samantha Mills added 14 digs and two aces for the Silver Warriors.
Mackenzie Rowland had eight kills and three blocks for Shaker (3-6). Lauren Woods recorded seven kills, and Olivia Bruni added 10 digs.
