Tom Henecker, NFL guru and big Giants fan
You know, when you get older, it gets harder to remember things. This could be the 12th or maybe 13th, or even 14th year of our friendly News Enterprise picking contest!
Either way, it’s great to be at the beginning of another wonderful NFL season. Oh, and did I mention, The New York Football Giants are again Super Bowl Champions?! And how great was it that they beat the Patsies again?!
Despite the fact that we’ve been doing this for so many years, it’s time for a refresher:
Each week you’ll find a sheet listing every NFL game in the News Enterprise — in print, in pdf format, and online. All you need to do is select which team you think will win each game. I also ask that you predict a score for each game, but that’s just to add to the fun. I’ll keep a running tally on everyone’s performance and publish it here for all to see.
With some 60 people participating the last several seasons, only one sheet per person is allowed. All entries must be received prior to kick off of the first game each week — and remember, the season officially kicks of on Wednesday, Sept. 5 with the Super Bowl Champion New York Football Giants hosting the Cowgirls.
You can fax your picks to 518-873-6360; mail them to PO Box 338, Elizabethtown, NY 12932; or e-mail (my preferred way to receive them) firstname.lastname@example.org. If you choose the latter, be sure to include your name and phone number, and be very clear about who you’re choosing to win each game.
For those of you out of town, feel free to get a weekly schedule off the Internet or your local paper — just make sure you get your picks in on time. You can find the current issue of the News Enterprise online by going to denpubs.com. And remember, this is just for fun, and we’re big on the honor system. If there’s ever a mistake, just point it out and we’ll correct it the following week.
This is going to be my year for sure, both with my picking performance, and the performance of The Super Bowl Champion New York Football Giants in their quest for a repeat. For the past few years, I’ve predicted a Manning vs. Manning Super Bowl (OK, so I was wrong. So were a lot of you with your lame predictions). This year, however, I the Big Blue will get their chance for revenge against the Ravens.
I’ll give you my picks for Week 1 next week, but rest assured, I’ll be picking the Jints all the way!
GO BIG BLUE!!!
