Harry Joanette recorded a goal and assist in Keene's 2-0 win against Minerva/Newcomb Oct. 22.
For the second year, the Keene Beavers will travel to Chazy for a Section VII/Class D quarterfinal showdown after earning an opening round win.
The Beavers scored early thanks to a goal by Harry Joanette in the fourth minute on their way to a 4-0 win over Minerva/Newcomb in the opening playoff round.
“I thought that they passed the ball well today,” Keene head coach Charlie Platt said. “We had some problems in the midfield, but we played to the wings well. They totally dominated and I got the chance to play everyone, which was nice.”
After scoring the opening marker of the game, Joanette then assisted on a goal by Gabe Warner in the 35th minute for a 2-0 KCS lead. Five minutes later, Warner assisted on a Colton Venner goal for a 3-0 lead heading into halftime.
Seven minutes into the second half, a corner kick by Warner was deflected into the goal by a Mountaineer defender, giving the Beavers their final tally of the game.
Brandon Dumas finished with 13 saves in earning the sectional play shutout.
With the win, eighth-seeded Keene (4-9-2) earned a Thursday night, Oct. 24, trip to Class D power and defending NYSPHSAA champion Chazy. The game will kick off at 6 p.m.
“I’m not sure there is a key to playing them,” Platt said. “They are very, very good. The midfield and our defense are going to be the focus in practice. Our defense has been playing really good of late, which will be key because Chazy controls the ball so well.”
