The Suburban Council field hockey season opened Tuesday with a pair of games.
Sydney Bowker tallied twice to lead Niskayuna to a 5-1 victory over Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake, while Columbia posted a 2-1 overtime victory over Bethlehem.
Ali Frary got Niskayuna on the scoreboard with a first-half goal, and Carrie Hanks assisted Bowker on her goal to make the score 2-0. Bowker struck again early in the second half, with Niskayuna's final two goals coming from Anna Torri and Hanks.
Amy LeBel had Burnt Hills' lone goal, and goaltender Shauna Ryan made seven saves.
Sara Stathopoulos tallied for Bethlehem in its overtime loss to Columbia. Goaltender Chloe DeAngelis stopped seven shots.
