Two competitors in the East Coast Snocross races held recently at Burke Mountain, Vt. fly off a jump to the delight of spectators. East Coast Snocross is holding a series of races Saturday Jan. 26 and Sunday Jan. 27 in Lake George Village at the Charles Wood Park off West Brook Road.
Snowmobiles will be charging around curves and flying off jumps Saturday Jan. 26 and Sunday Jan. 27 as East Coast Snocross holds a series of races in the Charles Wood Park off West Brook Road in Lake George Village.
The snocross events are the third round of an eight-race sanctioned championship series for East Coast Snocross’ 2012-13 season.
Dozens of seasoned amateur and professional riders will be competing in various divisions, including female and youth races.
Spectator gates open at 10:30 a.m. each day, with amateur qualifying rounds in progress. Pro racing begins at 12:30 p.m. both days with Pro finals set for 3 p.m. Admission is $12 per day for adults, $5 for children ages 8-12, age 7 and under admitted free with a paying adult. Pit passes valid through the weekend will be available for an extra $10.
Each day will feature qualifying rounds and finals for riders in five major divisions; Professional, Pro Lite, Sport, Junior and Women. There is also a Trail class (700cc maximum displacement.) for those looking to give snocross a try in an affordable manner.
The competition is presented by King Neptune's Pub and Extreme Off-Road Sports.
Among the leading competitors is Pro rider Corin Todd of Otego who is currently experiencing a career-best season, winning two finals and the first round of qualifying in the 2013 Triple Crown Series. Todd's teammate is Danny Poirier, a seasoned championship rider from St. Theodore, Quebec.
Another notable professional snocross athlete competing in Lake George is Vermont native Lincoln Lemieux of St. Johnsbury, who won last Sunday in Plattsburgh.
Experienced racers competing in the Pro Lite division include Montana Jess of Massachusetts and Mike Pilotte of Fall River Vt. who won titles recently in Plattsburgh and at Burke Mountain respectively.
East Coast Snocross is the eastern affiliate of International Series of Champions (ISOC), the national sanctioning body for snocross.

Snowmobile racing will also be featured the next two weekends in northern Warren County, as North East Snocross will be sponsoring races Feb. 9 and 10 at the same site in Lake George Village and the following weekend at Green Mansions Golf Course off Rte. 9 between Warrensburg and Chestertown
