    Catching air - Nick Orton, a long-time local skateboarder and Saranac Lake SkatePark volunteer, takes to the air following the park’s ribbon cutting ceremony on Sunday, July 26. Hundreds attended the event, which featured food, music, raffles and a skateboard demonstration by members of the Artisan Skateparks crew, who elicited cheers from spectators with a show of grinds, airs and flip tricks.

    The Town of Johnsburg Library has a Lego competition every Thursday from 9 to 11 a.m. This week’s winners were: first place - Sid Mosher second place - Walter Hodgson; third place - Jackson Goodspeed.

    How low can you go? Friday, July 24 was Luau Day at the Minerva Youth Program on Minerva Lake. Fun was the word for the afternoon, as kids played hula hoop and water bucket games along with the limbo. Music, creative ideas and free ice cream were supplied by Selina LeMay-Klippel of Minerva. Grass skirts, straw hats, leis, coconut bras, and the beach were supplied by the Minerva Youth Program.

    Ryan Morris stretches for first during a game of tennis baseball while at the Youth Program last summer. The Johnsburg Summer Youth Program held at the Ski Bowl Park began July 7. The program runs from 9 a.m. to noon, Tuesdays through Fridays until Aug. 14.

    Fifth grade students from Ticonderoga Elementary School recently got creative at the beach. They used colored sand to make a mandala. This was during the fifth grade field trip to the Ticonderoga Beach.
