A poll by the Siena Research Institute shows New York State residents give Gov. Andrew Cuomo mixed grades. According to the poll there was slippage in Cuomo’s job performance and generic re-elect ratings. By a 64-28 percent margin, voters say Cuomo has been an effective governor. However, on seven of eight specific issues, only between 15 and 26 percent of voters said that issue has improved since Cuomo’s been governor, while between 24 and 45 percent of voters said it has gotten worse. The poll was based on the opinions of 813 registered voters. The poll asked about ensuring equal rights for New Yorkers, New York’s business climate, lessening corruption in state government, state government effectiveness, personal economic well-being, quality of public education, economic well-being of most New Yorkers, and fairness of the state’s tax policy. more

New York Sen. Greg Ball is asking animal lovers to sign a petition calling for a statewide animal cruelty registry. The call for the petition followed the sentencing of an Albany resident who plead guilty to leaving three puppies on railroad tracks to die in 2013. The man will be added to the Albany County animal abuse registry so that he will no longer be able to purchase or adopt a pet within the county. more

The event, to help pay the Lucid family’s medically-related expenses, features a spaghetti dinner, musical entertainment, an extensive basket raffle and activities for children. more

The town of Ticonderoga is home to 12 buildings listed on the National Historic Registry. Among these buildings is Ticonderoga High School. The Colonial Revival structure was designed in 1928 by New York Architects. “It’s one of the finest and most complete schools built in the late 1920s in the state,” according to the New York State Office of Historic Preservation. Within the high school lies a 600-seat auditorium. Virtually untouched since construction, a group of Ticonderoga residents are now paving the way for a future renovation. more

School districts throughout Essex County have been deciding whether or not to implement a Veterans Tax Exemption law signed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo. The legislation allows school districts to offer the Alternative Veterans Exemption. While expressing support for veterans, most school administrators have complained that not enough information was available on the impact it might have on their districts. Although some schools adopted the exemption by the March 1 deadline, most did not. more
