Saranac Lake hires new village manager

SARANAC LAKE Mayor Tom Michael appointed Martin Murphy of Ogdensburg as Village Manager for Saranac Lake last week, citing his strong background in planning and development as a bonus. The Village Board voted unanimously in favor. Murphy is the Director of Planning & Development for the city of Ogdensburg where he began work after earning a Masters degree in Public Administration from SUNY Brockport in 1989. As administrative director of the New York State Empire Zone, Murphy was successful in garnering more than $20 million in grants for redevelopment. He successfully developed and implemented a Historic Downtown Revitalization Program as well as a park master plan that includes a civic center, swimming pool, recreation trails and a visitor center. Murphy will begin work in Saranac Lake the last week of November at a salary of $70,000.
